Taylor is no newcomer. In fact, she has proven that she has what it takes to do it all. We were first introduced to her during an appearance on MTV’s show “My Super Sweet Sixteen” in 2007. At the time, she was signed to Interscope Records and Pharell’s Star Trak Entertainment. She released her debut single “Google Me” in 2008. The song was featured on her mixtape From A Planet Called Harlem. But it doesn’t stop there. Teyana is also an actress who has appeared in “Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming” and “Madea’s Big Happy Family.
VII starts with the interlude “Outta My League” where Teyana wonders how a boy like him can want a girl like her. He’s way out of her league.
Words are just words but the love that’s in her heart is “Just Different.”
Teyana is ready to perform for her man but she wants to know exactly what he likes. What’s your “Request,” she asks. She can transform into anything he wants her to be, all he has to do is request.
The album’s third single “Do Not Disturb” features Chris Brown and certainly sets the mood. She wants her man to put his money where his mouth is. She wants to satisfy him and she doesn’t want any interruptions.
Brooklyn rapper Fabolous joins Teyana for the track “Broken Hearted Girl.” She noticed this mystery man was looking at her and she was looking too. She wants him RIGHT NOW. Teyana pays tribute to late singer Teena Marie with a tribute to her song “Portuguese Love.”
All Teyana wants her man to do is give her his love on the interlude “It Could Just Be Love.”
“Put Your Love On” has a reggae feel that makes you want to move. Teyana wants her man to put his love on her because she has already put her love on him.
The album’s first official single “Maybe” features rappers Pusha T and Yo Gotti and has remained steadily on the charts since its release. She can’t figure out what it is about this guy but he turns her on.
Teyana addresses a nameless artist who has dreams of sleeping with an R&B chick on the track “Dreams.” She lets him know if he wants her, he has to come correct. She changes her tune later in the track because she’s taken. She’ll just remain his fantasy girl in his fantasy world.
She apologizes to a guy who didn’t know how to love her and now he has to watch her from far away on the song “Sorry.”
The album’s second single “Business” informs listeners that what’s going on between her and her man ain’t nobody’s business but theirs. I couldn’t agree more.
On the song “In The Air,” Teyana promises that she’s done with this relationship for good but before she leaves, she puts on in the air for love.
The deluxe version of the album features extended versions of the interludes “Outta My League” and “It Could Just Be Love.”
The album has that certain 90’s feel that many have been missing. It is clear that Teyana took her time on this album and only wanted to release the best. Her maturity over the years shows on the album.
